I love that we learn about Frankie’s reasons for wanting to disappear through timeline POV chapters, slowly piecing together everything as the chapters get closer to the present-day. But as they find out: even the best laid plans cannot account for everything. Maude’s a mastermind who’s probably watched way too much True Crime Content and I’m honestly in awe of her brain. From pseudocide to accidental murder and running from the cops (as well as their past), Maude and Frankie are going through it in this book and just trying to start over. This plot is bonkers in the best of ways. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time while listening. Told in dual timelines, Dead End Girls is the sapphic thriller you didn’t know you needed in your life! Tightly plotted, the book is full of action and high stakes that is utterly addictive and impossible to put down.

In fact most of what I know about ancient mythology comes from reading recent publications that offer a new take on a very old story, most often from the perspective of women, who are often relegated to the background in the older tellings. Mythological retellings or reimaginings, are very popular right now and I’ve read quite a lot in the last 12 months. After reading and loving Ariadne I was very excited for whatever Jennifer Saint was going to release next. This was one of my most anticipated releases for this year. But, can she escape the curse, or is her own destiny also bound by violence? The youngest daughter of Clytemnestra and Agamemnon, Elektra is horrified by the bloodletting of her kin. She is powerless in her knowledge that the city will fall. Princess of Troy, and cursed by Apollo to see the future but never to be believed when she speaks of it. Her husband raises a great army against them, and determines to win, whatever the cost. The sister of Helen, wife of Agamemnon – her hopes of averting the curse are dashed when her sister is taken to Troy by the feckless Paris. This is the story of three women, their fates inextricably tied to this curse, and the fickle nature of men and gods. A bloodline tainted by a generational cycle of violence and vengeance. She grew up as a privileged white kid in Chicago, and she’s working in Dell’s small-town animal hospital for reasons unknown. When I step back and look at Animal Attraction, I’m actually not a huge fan of Dell, but in the moment, I really thought he was sweet and caring with her, which won me over to his relationship with Jade. His two older brothers, future sister-in-law, and now Jade. However, he’s very loyal and protective to the people who he’s allowed close enough to him. Nice guy, but doesn’t have a good track record with women. He’s the love-em-and-leave-em type, since he’s terrified of falling in love and getting dumped. Former foster kid with extreme abandonment issues. I definitely thought that the chemistry and tension between them was believable and realistic (except when it wasn’t).įirstly, you have Dell. Dell was a kind, caring guy with a soft spot for animals, and Jade is organized and self-reliant, if not self-confident, for reasons that soon become obvious. The romantic couple here is Jade and Dell, who I really enjoyed together (except when I didn’t). At the same time, there were some aspects about this romance that I found to be infinitely frustrating, though not in a way that was entirely detrimental to my enjoyment overall. Animal Attraction is my second novel by Shalvis, and at this point, I’m definitely going to consider myself a fan. I liked this book for sure, but I have some mixed feelings all the same. Joining us in this discussion will be B.J. Our guest of honour is award-winning Latvian author, Nora Ikstena, whose 2015 novel Mātes piens (published by Peirene Press in the UK as Soviet Milk) is about exactly this: three generations of Latvian women connected by mothers’ milk. We will also discuss the importance of preserving breastfeeding as a cultural practice in order to preserve bonds between different generations of mothers and daughters. Soviet Milk is an online seminar on Tuesday, November 16th, 2022 (at 6pm GMT/UK time) celebrating, and exploring, the symbolism of breastfeeding in literature – not just in the former Soviet nations, but internationally. And after that, I found that every single Hitchcock film that came along absolutely mesmerized me.” “The film completely wiped me out,” he told the Westchester Rockland Newspapers of New York in 1976. But he always had a fondness for movies, especially those directed by Hitchcock, whose work he first encountered when he was 10 and saw “Strangers on a Train” at the RKO Proctor’s Theater in New Rochelle. Before that, he had held several teaching positions, including in the theology department at Fairfield University in Connecticut and the department of religion at the College of New Rochelle in Westchester County, north of New York City. The previously nonspiritual, scientific Weiss, awed by Catherine's and the masters' revelations, has written this book to share his new-found knowledge about ``immortality and the true meaning of life.'' Whether or not one believes in reincarnation and channeling, Weiss's book will disappoint. When Weiss turned to hypnosis to help Catherine remember repressed childhood traumas, what emerged were the patient's descriptions of a dozen or so of her hitherto unknown 86 past lives, as well as philosophical messages channeled from ``Master Spirits.'' Catherine's anxieties and phobias soon disappeared, says Weiss, and she was able to end therapy. In 1980, Weiss, head of the psychiatry department at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, began treating Catherine, a 27-year-old woman plagued by anxiety, depression and phobias. |
